Texas Holdem NoLimit Poker Tournament Strategy How To Play Suited Connectors - By: Napoleon Will - Poker-A-Z.Com
A suited connector is a hand of the same suit in numerical order. If your hole cards are eight of spades and nine of spades, you would have a suited connector. Playing suited connectors should only be attempted when you are comfortable reading your opponents. Many times you will hit a flop and lose your entire stack to a better hand. In early position, you may want to limp sometimes and hope to hit a big flop. In middle position, you can limp if no one has raises the pot. Rarely do you want to make a call with a suited connector when someone has already raised the pot. In late position, you can either limp or raise depending upon your opponents. If you are playing against loose players who will rarely fold, it is best to simply limp. When you limp, you are hoping to hit a straight or top two pair. Hitting bottom two pair in an unraised pot is very dangerous. Many times, your opponents will have a higher two pair, a straight, or a set. Against very tight players, you should often raise suited connectors. In position, raise about three to four times the big blind. On the flop, make a continuation bet about three quarters the size of the pot. Most times your opponents will miss the flop and fold to your continuation bet. If your opponents show resistance on the flop, it is time to give up the hand. If you happen to hit a big flop, continue to play it aggressively. Many times your opponents will continue to call with only a pair. Suited connectors can win you very large pots as your opponents can never put you on these types of hands. Add some more starting hands to your game and you could be the next WPT champion.
